WELCOME TO THE

LOUIS D BROWN PEACE INSTITUTE

Who was Louis Brown?

In 1993, as a high school sophomore, Louis Brown was already concerned about violence in his community.  On December 20, 1993 on his way to a meeting for the group "Teens Against Gang Violence,"  Louis was shot and killed in his Dorchester, Massachusetts neighborhood.  His mother, Tina Chery responded to this tragedy by co-founding the Louis D Brown Peace Institute, whose mission includes educating young people about the value of peace, and empowering families impacted by violence by providing crisis management and support to survivors of homicide.

Every year, people from across the state join Tina and gather to participate in the annual 3.6 mile Louis D Brown Peace Institute Mother's Day Walk for Peace.  Among those walking are elected officials, law enforcement professionals, neighbors, clergy, advocates, and family members and friends of victims of violence.  The walk is one way to show that "people care"
